Compared to 4-axis CNC machining, it has an additional inclined axis, allowing the tool to move at multiple angles and planes. The following are the steps involved in the 5-axis CNC machining process:
1. CAD Design: Build and design a 3D model based on product requirements. Designers first need to create a sketch, then import the sketch into CAD software for model optimization and construction.
The accuracy and quality of the CAD design determine the complexity and efficiency of the subsequent production process.
2. CAM Programming: Convert the designed part model into a machining program that the machine can understand.
CAM software generates the tool paths, cutting parameters, and machining code used to control the 5-axis CNC machine.
3. Machine Setup: Adjust and set up the machine, including clamping the workpiece, installing machining tools, setting workpiece coordinates, and selecting machining parameters.
4. Real-time Monitoring and Adjustment: During the machining process, the machine tool's real-time monitoring system or sensors monitor tool and workpiece position, temperature, cutting forces, and other information.
Based on this information, necessary adjustments and corrections can be made to ensure machining accuracy and quality.
5. Cutting Cooling and Lubrication: Depending on the material being machined and the cutting conditions, coolants or lubricants are used to cool and lubricate the cutting area to prevent tool overheating and workpiece surface quality issues.
6. Machining Inspection: Machining inspection requires physical and chemical testing, including material hardness, dimensions, flatness, roundness, and appearance.
