Surface treatment of Aluminum Profiles -Polished

Updated: Jun 15

Metal surface polishing technology is a process specifically used to improve the surface quality of metals, especially for metal materials such as aluminum alloys. It aims to achieve surface flatness, reduce processing deformation layers, avoid scratches, and achieve a mirror effect, aiming to explore the production process of 6463 alloy extruded profiles after aging.

Aluminum alloys have been widely used in many fields due to their excellent surface processing performance and physical and chemical properties, so the demand for their surface polishing technology is also increasing.

However, aluminum and its products have low hardness and are prone to surface damage during processing, so surface polishing technology is particularly important. This technology not only helps to eliminate defects on the metal surface, but also beautifies the appearance of the product and improves product quality and service life.

The polished aluminum alloy surface is smoother and smoother, and its decorative effect, light reflection performance, heat reflection performance and corrosion resistance are significantly improved.

At present, there are mainly 3 processes for aluminum alloy surface polishing.

#1 The first is mechanical polishing technology

It uses the friction between a high-speed rotating polishing wheel and a grindstone to finely process the surface of aluminum products. By grinding the raised parts on the surface of aluminum products, a layer of amorphous material is formed, thereby improving the surface roughness and enhancing the surface brightness.

Mechanical polishing is usually used in the rough processing stage, which can effectively remove oil, scale and burrs. However, its equipment investment is large, the operation is relatively complicated, and the polishing effect for precision parts and complex-shaped workpieces is limited.

#2 The second is electrolytic polishing technology

It uses the interaction between electrolyte and DC power supply to electrochemically treat the surface of aluminum alloy. During the electrolysis process, a passivation film will be formed on the surface of aluminum alloy. By controlling the difference in current density, the dissolution rate of the protruding part is accelerated, thereby achieving surface leveling.

Electrolytic polishing has the advantages of high efficiency and environmental protection, but the equipment is complex, the power consumption is large, and the cost is high, so the scope of application is relatively limited.

#3 Finally is chemical polishing technology

It uses chemical solvents to selectively dissolve the surface of aluminum alloy, so that the dissolution rate of the protruding part is greater than that of the concave part, thereby achieving the effect of surface brightness.

Chemical polishing has a simple process, low energy consumption, low cost, and is suitable for workpieces with complex shapes. The surface of aluminum products treated with chemical polishing is smooth and has good decorative effect, and the heat reflection and corrosion resistance are significantly improved.
